20 Tips for a Better Bedroom

20 Tips for a Better Bedroom
A bedroom must be a relaxing retreat that eliminates the stress of our busy lives. Here are my ideas for creating an oasis in your home:
1. Comfort is the key. After all, we sleep a third of our lives. Your top priority should be your mattress. Find the right strength for your optimal sleep, along with the perfect pillows and the most comfortable sheets you can afford.
2. Light is important. Most people need a dark room to achieve the best shuttering effects. Therefore, make sure you have fabulous and functional window treatments, eg. As darkening shadows to keep out the outside light or even a bright moon. Equally important is a multi-level lighting plan that gives you the right amount of light when you need it. Consider bedside lamps or swivel armchairs for reading in bed, paired with a ceiling light on a dimmer.
3. Stay cool. Or keep your warmth. It's about making sure you have the right temperature to drift to sleep. Depending on the season, I like to take off my blankets, with cotton in summer and wool, cashmere or a fluffy down blanket in winter. We also have the Control4 technology so we can set the thermostat directly from our phones, without even getting out of the warm, comfortable bed.
4. Color it calming. I like to tell the story of how I experimented with color when I started designing and painted my bedroom bright red. I had the worst sleep of my life until I was repainted. Color really influences our moods. Use relaxing shades such as light gray, sky blue or sea green. Your blood pressure will thank you.
5. Adjust the sound. You can not sleep well if the phone is right next to your head or the TV is on while trying to fall asleep. These devices emit blue light that disturbs your circadian rhythm. Store your electronics out of sight. Also, think of small details that make a big impact, like fresh flowers or a good-smelling candle that will help you relax.
